WALKIN' SPAIN

The designed CLIL unit is about the Geography of Spain that would be taught in the first year of Secondary as part of the subject of Geography. This unit would be the first one of the academic year.

The aims of this Unit will be:
-          - To recognise the main mountain systems in the Iberian Peninsula.
-         - To identify the Spanish coasts and islands.
-         - To identify the three groups of estuaries.
-         - To identify the five types of climate in Spain.
-         - To use I.T. to get information about the physical geography of Spain.

We will study the mountain systems in Spain, Spanish coasts and islands, Spanish rivers and the Climate in Spain.

As the students are in the first Academic year of Secondary, we will use visual resources as videos, photos and so on. Checking out the previous knowledge of the students about the topic in order to make them feel more confident and ready to achieve more about it.

We will learn and understand new vocabulary with the aim of understanding oral-visual-written pieces of information.

At the same time, we will discover with our students the main mountain systems, coasts, islands and the five sorts of climate in Spain.

This unit will take seven sessions of 50 minutes each one and all of them divided into four main parts:
- Presentation (12’).
- Practice (12’).
- Production (12’).
- Conclusion (12’).


Students will need their subject notebooks, the usage of up-to-date technology through computers or tablets and working on the internet and different apps
We will start playing a short video by which students will have a general idea about the country where they live. It is a way that makes students feel more confident to face a new unit, someone always has an idea about a topic at least.

The notes and explanations can be reinforced with resources like flashcards that also will help the kids to settle their knowledge of the contents and the control of L2

The geography of our country shows how different it is and how this diversity does not just affect the geography indeed. I would end up leaving the issue about what to think about it: “Food for thought”.
